FOCUS ON 2024 AND 2023 IN REVIEW
2024 - in Focus
Election Year and Ballot Initiative:
As we enter 2024, we acknowledge the significance of an election year. To solidify our commitment to positive change, we have submitted notice to the City Clerk for a ballot initiative. We now embark on the challenging journey of collecting over 10,000 signatures, on paper, within 180 days.
Call for Volunteers:
This ambitious goal requires a collective effort. We urge you all to volunteer your time and support. With only 100 volunteers collecting 100 signatures each, we can make a significant impact and pave the way for positive change in our beloved city. Together, we can achieve our vision for a better community, but we need you.
THANK YOU:
Nancy, David, Moss and the team at Oceanside Dog Beach have been working for you tirelessly over the last two years and we thank you for all your support -

2023 - iN REVIEW
Celebrating Two Successful Years:
As we reflect on the past year, we are proud to announce the completion of our second year of dedicated efforts toward enhancing the quality of life in our community. Did you see us at our many events: Independence Parade, Pride by the Beach, Sunset Market…?
Advocacy on the City Council Agenda:
Our commitment to positive change led us to the City Council agenda twice in the two years. We more recently engaged in discussions with council members Kiem and Joyce, urging them to consider a revamped beach ordinance.
Challenges Faced in Beach Ordinance Discussions:
Despite our best efforts, the discussions with council members yielded no constructive outcomes. We faced hurdles in advocating for a rewritten beach ordinance since no meetings or planning sessions were allowed.
RE:BEACH - City of Oceanside’s Coastal Beach Resilience Design Competition - rebuilding our beach from years of erosion
Influencers on Re:Beach.org Design:
Undeterred by challenges and the city council using lack of sand as a blocking point for dog beach access, we actively participated in Re:Beach.org, influencing design teams to incorporate dog-friendly elements. Through three workshops, we added valuable feedback from the community to ensure our needs were considered in the final designs. We made it to all three designs!
Upcoming Design Completion and Council Decision:
The culmination of our efforts will be evident in January as the design competition concludes with a jury vote. The City Council is set to make a crucial decision by the end of the month.
Long-Term Vision for Beach Restoration:
Securing coastal permits and funding is the next phase, with construction slated to commence in 2026 at one specific location. The success of this small pilot project will dictate the timeline for replicating the process across O’side beaches, with estimates suggesting it will take 20-30 years to restore the sand to its former glory.
Rewriting City Dog on Beach Ordinance:
We successfully rewrote the city's dog on the beach ordinance. It now aligns with the practices of most San Diego County cities, allowing on-leash activities before 9 am and after 4 pm. Additionally, we added off-leash privileges on the "wet" sand south of Tyson St Park, which is unused now, only available during low tide and is perfect for our pets. We want to make “Lemonade” out of our beach erosion debacle.
Active Participation in O’side Dog Park Workshop:
To further address community needs, we actively participated in the O’side Dog Park workshop, aiming to create spaces that cater to the diverse needs of our residents. But we still need our beaches to be pet-friendly like the rest of Oceanside.
